Thank you for your kind words.

Director, THE WAR TAPES

Yuri van Geest

Deborah,

Thanks for your feedback.

A few years ago, I saw a brilliant movie (fictional) about the war in Afghanistan called Brothers directed by Susanne Bier from Denmark. This showed me that the key aspect of war is distance. Distance created by killing other people and thus killing yourself. It is the distance between you as a human being and your own heart and soul which permeates the relationships around you later on. That is what is so horrible about war to me. Not only the casualties but also the 'survivors' of it all. Also think Deer Hunter. To see it in your film is even more intense, especially the tone of voice of the soldiers as a metaphor and explicitation of this (increased) distancing. It feels surreal and it is surreal to be in these situations due to the distancing.

I hope your story will be heard and seen by as many people around the world as possible.

Good luck with your next projects.

Kind regards,
Yuri
